Exploring abandoned Chruch

Some people spend New Years Day relaxing with the day off or recovering from a hangover but this year my friends at “The need for exploration”and I decided it would be a perfect day for exploring. This location was very close, especially when compared to our recant stops, and super easy to get into despite being in the middle of downtown. We found ourselves in a large multi level church with the most beautiful high cathedral ceilings, a grand organ pipes reaching almost to the ceiling, rows and rows and of chairs attached to the balcony covered in a layer of dust so that you could see where other explorers and animals had been, even a small grand piano that still worked. The stained glass windows mixed with the early morning light and made the best colors and tones to shoot, we honestly could not of come at a better time. There was a bunch to look at from the pastors study which looked like it was also used in the last 20 years or so as an adult learning center, G.E.D books were scattered everywhere. There was a pale colored room off to one side with a coat rack and a fire place that reminded me of every Sunday I wasted in CCD school as a child, a small bathroom with pregnant mannequins and a basement full of weird statues, chairs, paintings and random things. I most enjoyed shooting with the privacy curtain that was left near the choir stage and all the cool angles combined with light the space provided naturally. We even found a little crawl space that lead up behind the organ where someone would go to clean and maintain them, while up there Amber found hand written names in the dust with the 1970s date and we even saw the last psalm number that they read from during mass was left on the wall. Churches are such beautiful places as far as the architecture and light is concerned, there are some rather incredible ones all over the world that I would like to visit, however to me they are also dark places, that remind me what a scam most organized religion is and how many guilt its believers into giving money to build and maintain these structures as well as abuse their power over the population as they have been for thousands of years. That is not to say I think all religion is inherently evil or all the people who practice are bad because that would be ridiculous, I do think the world for the part would be better off without all of it instead letting the rules of society govern your concise rather than some sky king or deity. I wont keep ranting about my distaste for religion particularly the catholic brand I was raised on because I feel as though that comes across clearly in my work, but weather your a believer or an atheist a saint or a sinner or just a human trying to be a human I hope you enjoy the shots I got on this adventure, be sure to check them all out on the “more galleries” page.
