Raw Art Showcase Boston
This July, after many months of planning and printing I finally got to see all of my efforts come together on the 18th at the Raw art Showcase. Raw Artists showcase local art and independent talent throughout cities all over the world, they have an extensive network of industry people and do shows all over the U.S , giving artists the opportunity to branch out to other cities or keep their participation local. The category I submitted work under was photography but there were so many different kinds of artists, I think that was one of the things I appreciated most about the entire event, the verity of people and creative minds ready give the world something beautiful. Most of my personal favorites were paint and visual art but the entire show from gallery to fashion music hair and makeup, everyone put their best work forward to make the night truly special. As an artist I am always critiquing myself and thinking about what I could do better, my display set up was themed like a spooky abandoned house with lots of rope and burlap, I added a few taxidermy props from my personal collection of weird things (purchased at my favorite prop store evens and oddities Haverhilll MA) but I do wish I had brought more as far as props and display set ups. With the knowledge of the space and having done my first show with Raw there are a few small things like that I want to try to keep in mind for next time. From set up at 2pm to breakdown and cleanup at midnight, the entire event flew by, being that some of my work is a little on the gory and spooky side it was so much fun to watch people react through out the night. Some people were immediately drawn to it for the spooky quality, some people were confused but happy to hear the story that accompanies every one of my images, a very few (mostly women in the 50s and 60s) were disturbed and clearly uncomfortable over the nudity and gore. That is the best thing about an art show or showing anyone your work in person, you get to see the emotion that the image brings out of people be it discomfort , joy, curiosity. I love seeing people feel my work. I wont go on forever though I certainly could so let me wrap this up by saying I learned a lot from this experience. My last art show before this was in High School at a pizza place ( was super fun at the time thanks girls eye view photo) so being in Boston at the mix 360 surrounded by amazing artist and curious spectators I felt very much like I was exactly where I was supposed to be, sharing what I love. You will find that the more you put yourself out there and share your imagination you will find all the right people to inspire you. Big Thank you to everyone who participated in putting on the show an everyone who helped me set up and shoot the work for the show. Everyone who got a ticket even those that didn’t make it, I appreciate you dearly for the support and i hope everyone involved had as much fun as I did!
(I was in front of another photographers lens which is super uncomfortable for me so just know i tried my best not to look super awkward I don’t know how my models do it ;)
