Urban Exploring Eugenics Facility

The roads of northern Massachusetts recently brought model and friend F.Rose and I to quite the interesting abandoned explore. We got a first hand look inside an abandoned eugenics and develop mental facility. A short walk though a thorny path , and a quick run though the open parking lot and we were inside the very open almost welcoming medical building with the doors wide open how could we resist . One of the newest added to the facility comprised of about 72 buildings it was originally a Victorian sanatorium host for horrible human experimentation including exposing “feeble minded “ children to radioactive isotopes. At its peak about 2,500 people were confined there, the last resident was discharged November 13 2014. This massive facility was unfortunately for the most part left unexplored by myself as the majority of the buildings from where were hidden at the top of a very long hill and unknown to us until researching later, however it may be for the better as the grounds is not open to the public and up for demolition with heavy security some times it is best to take/shoot what you can and go. For the short time we did have walking around the medical building was certainly eerie, all most all of the windows on the first floor were broken and the walls vandalized exposed wires and open gaps in the ceiling almost made a pattern. There were long hallways with cold color tiles and what I imagine to have been observation rooms as they were fitted with small rooms attached through one way glass. Rooms were numbered and lettered but unfortunately due to the impending demo many doors were ripped down and carpet pulled up all piled in one area. It was strange to see very old features mixed with the sad attempts at modern updates, there was a rotary phone and old heating systems that looked like they were from the 1980s mixed with new layers of paint and new electrical units. About a half hour of walking around this place I got the feeling we should leave and after almost getting lost in the maze of hallways we continued our adventure to other locations to make use of the daylight. Some times you have to rely on luck, I am not sure how much longer this building will be left standing but I am grateful to have gotten a glimpse into such a strange and terrible place as it is the very reason today we now have so many laws and regulations regarding the treatment of the mentally disabled. Most of the people who were locked away were simply “unwanted people and abandoned children” and had no symptoms of disabilities, it is a sad part of our history to dwell on but like all things in history with such negative impacts, it needs to be documented and remembered so that we never allow such abuse to happen again.
