Exploring Mansions
Part 3 of 3
The Third and finial stop of our November adventure was at “ The Painters House” named for all the incredible art work left behind along with an almost un-touched artist studio complete with a ton of supplies and personal artifact. I was given this location (as i do most) from another explorer who said we had to check it out while in the area. We were met with another easy entry (all three locations were pretty easy to get in and out of (thanks to info from friends). It was a smaller house and not really a mansion per say but more of an old Victorian style home. The super tight corners made it a bit of a challenge for me to shoot as I didn’t have a wide angle lens at this time but still managed to get some great photos. There was so much left in this house it absolutely looked like whoever lived here just left it all, coats and shoes in the closet, kids toys and photos, prescription bottles, Hennessy and enough art supplies to create for a lifetime. I am not sure if the person who lived here collected art as well or if everything we found was made by them but it kind of made me sad to see what looked like someones life work just sitting in dust and decay. I think one of the people who loved here also loved animals as there was an old beehive with branches displayed in a glass fish tank and national geographic’s from the 1970s. This house was in pretty bad shape with some of the roof collapsing in the living room and the heavy stench of mold and mildew from the rain getting in.
This area we ventured roughly 5 hours to get to is an abandoned chasers playground. Before air travel was affordable or common for middle class people it was a high traffic resort and vacation detestation but with the new means of travel and technology that came with time, eventually it dried up and most of the population declined with the closing up most the hotels and local attractions, making for a ton of spots to explore! We went back in December a giant abandoned hotel and this summer will be planning a bando camp trip so stay tuned for more!
